Invest an hour of your time in a small group to learn how to search the healthcare databases for journal articles to support your work or study.

Using Medline, CINAHL etc you will also learn how to save your searches, download a subset of results and access full text.

We collaborate with colleagues across both London and England to maximise the range of electronic resources we can make available to you.

The England wide resources will come up for renewal shortly. This is your opportunity to comment on how well these resources meet your needs and to influence future purchasing decisions.

We will also look to these results as we continue to refine the e journals and resources we buy locally.

Department of Health, “Equity and excellence: liberating the NHS”

The NHS White Paper sets out the Government's long-term vision for the future of the NHS. The vision builds on the core values and principles of the NHS - a comprehensive service, available to all, free at the point of use, based on need, not ability to pay. It sets out how we will: put patients at the heart of everything the NHS does; focus on continuously improving those things that really matter to patients - the outcome of their healthcare; and empower and liberate clinicians to innovate, with the freedom to focus on improving healthcare services. The Department is consulting on elements of these proposals. Details on how to respond can be found in the White Paper.

Think tanks

Civitas, “Data briefing: Re. Government plans to transfer commissioning responsibility from PCTs to GPs”Health Services / Commissioning. This short briefing aims to provide insight on the scale and nature of the financial risk posed by such a move, by looking at the impact of the last reconfiguration of commissioning on performance. This occurred in 2006 when the number of PCTs was reduced in size from 302 to 152, through merging 222 PCTs and leaving 80 PCTs unchanged.

The Trust uses the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures.



To support this the KLS has purchased online access placing the latest edition of the Manual at the fingertips of all staff.

Onsite access is via the Intranet - follow Trust Policies and then Clinical Nursing procedures. No login is required via this route.


Access offsite is via http://www.rmmonline.co.uk/ then click on Athens Authentication Point on the right had side of the screen. Ask KLS staff if you need help getting an Athens account.

Once in you can browse or search to find a procedure.

Our latest list of new books is now available.

The list includes the latest editions of Graham's Understanding health inequalities & Denny's Sociology for nurses, for those interested in social aspects of health.
